Item is a photograph of one of the observing stations, probably in the Hudson Strait area. The photograph was taken on the Hudson Bay Expedition of 1884 under the command of Lieut. A.R. Gordon.

"During the 1884 expedition a total of 5 observing stations were set up in the Hudson Strait area and 1 on the Labrador coast, each with a staff of three. The primary responsibility of the observors was to monitor the formation, breakup, and movement of ice in the Strait in order to ascertain for what period of the year the Strait was navigable."
