Item is a photograph of two members of the expedition team packing the observatory station walls with snow for insulation. The photograph may have been taken by W.A. Ashe, observer at Ashe Inlet during the Hudson Bay Expedition of 1884.
Title based on contents of photograph.
"The 'Instructions to officers in charge of stations in Hudson's Bay and Straits', included in Gordon's 1884 report (p. 2-3) note that the staff are required to insulate the observing station with snow: 'the assistance of the Esquimaux should, if possible, be obtained, and the whole house arched over with snow'."
