1 map : ms., on paper ; 61 x 61 cm.
25 [i.e. 26] August 1894
Shows Kazan River flowing into Chesterfield Inlet, and the coast of Hudson Bay from Chesterfield Inlet to Churchill. Also shows another unnamed river system, including several large lakes, to the east of Higulignah [Yathkyed] Lake flowing into Hudson Bay, with indication of Inuit camps and rapids.
"Title and date from map, supplied by J.B. Tyrrell."
"Dated from reference to map in J.B. Tyrrell's field notebook, entry for August 26th."
"Pasamut was the head man at a large Inuit camp of 7 tents, east of Angikuni Lake. It was information obtained from Pasamut and his son regarding the Kazan River's emptying into Chesterfield Inlet, rather than further south on Hudson Bay as previously thought, that led Tyrrell to the decision to try the unknown alternate route to Hudson Bay depicted on this map."
"Outline map in pencil on kraft paper, with place names supplied by Tyrrell. "
Forms part of the 'Geological Survey maps' sub-series.
