Item is a letter written by J. Hawes, Hudson Bay Company, Churchill, Manitoba, to J.B. Tyrrell reporting that the guide James Westascott returned on January 1. Hawes writes that a party of Chipewyan Indians, including Curly Head and Johnny Anderson, who had previously provided Tyrrell with information on the 1893 expedition, had come to trade meat and fur, and also that Hawes had received Tyrrell's letter from Split Lake.
