Item is a letter written by James Tyrrell to his brother, Joseph Burr Tyrrell from on board the S.S. Alert during the expedition to Hudson Bay. James describes his polar bear hunting exploits with Dr. Robert Bell, Bell's assistant, James MacNaughton, and one other expedition member in detail. James notes that September 18th, 1885 would be his last night on board the S.S. Alert for that season, before disembarking at Ashe Inlet.
